Students Seminar on Gender sensitization
(Inter-college competition)
organized by
K. J. Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies

Gender has been a prominent concept from social, cultural and mythological perspective since ancient times. The changing dimensions of the concept of gender as per different time periods have played a significant role in shaping the ideologies of the societies existing in those time periods. If awareness about gender is to be created, one can also refer to the history and get valuable inputs from the past. They can be discussed and interpreted.

To celebrate International Women’s Day especially at institutes like K J Somaiya Dharma Studies, it is significant to observe the ancient literature, art and architecture connected with Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and analyze how the image of women is reflected through these expressions in ancient India. It will be interesting to see how this analysis will be done by the students across the disciplines and how today’s young minds review the exercise of gender sensitization.

The UG and PG students from any discipline are invited to participate in this seminar. They can present their papers individually or in groups.

Following are broad subtopics for the paper presentation-
1. Women as reflected in Ancient Indian literature
2. Gender in Ancient Indian Art and Architecture
3. Mythology and Gender stereotypes
4. Women’s contribution to Ancient Meditative practices

The participation in the seminar is free of cost, however prior registration is mandatory.

Last date for the submission of abstract- 5th March 2024
