Minor in Yoga and Meditation Techniques

Yoga and meditation have become keywords for physical and mental health in the modern era. Our institution has been at the forefront of defining courses that balance the physical dimensions of Yoga, such as Asanas and Pranayamas, with an in-depth philosophical background in the tradition. This programme will equip students with a deeper understanding of this classical tradition that has so much to offer: overall awareness about physical and mental health, as well as the correlation of Yoga with psychology and therapy.

Students can also choose to audit the programme, in which case they will not need to take any of the internal or final assessments and there will be no credits assigned either. They will receive a certificate of completion, provided they have the minimum attendance of 80%.

Eligibility: HSC or equivalent

Differentiators

Our faculty are specialists in Yoga, both in the philosophical aspects and the physical exercises. Our institution has led the field in the development of these courses and we offer programmes that meet requirements of students at all levels of interest and ability: from Certificate level to Ph D. We have also collaborated with the Somaiya Hospital to conduct research. Students of our programmes will benefit from the workshops and special lectures that are regularly announced on Yoga.

Given our experience in the field we have curated a special programme that will deliver a rigorous and full-fledged introduction to Yoga for students who choose this as a Minor. They will be engaged in discussions on the body-mind complex, the wonders of a healthy body and the importance of a healthy mind for a life that is full of challenges

Students will understand the body-mind connection and the value of good health: both emotional, spiritual and physical; they will be encouraged to make healthy and meaningful choices for themselves and for their families.

The K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies has a library with over 30,000 books, which is an important resource.

Along with regular curriculum, students will benefit from the special lectures, workshops and retreats that are organised by the institute. In this process, they will interact with some of the finest scholars in the field and also get an opportunity to explore the inter-disciplinary nature of Yoga
