How to become a Somaiya student

The K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies offers a number of Certificate programmes that address the learning needs of students of all backgrounds. These programmes are introductory in nature and are designed specifically for students who wish to explore these areas before making a commitment to higher, and more rigorous forms of study. Certificate programmes are also available for language study in Pali, Prakrit and Tibetan.

Eligibility Criteria

Certificate Course in Yoga:

1. HSC or equivalent examination.

2. Prior knowledge of Yoga is not required.

Certificate Course in Introduction to Buddhism:

HSC or equivalent examination (e.g. 10+2)

Certificate in Jainology:

HSC or equivalent.

 

Certificate Course in Rock-cut Architecture:

HSC or equivalent examination (e.g. 10+2)

Certificate in Prakrit Language and Literature:  

HSC or equivalent.

 

Certificate Course in Elementary Pali:

HSC or equivalent examination (e.g. 10+2)

 
 

Certificate Course in Research Methodology and Academic Writing:

1.Postgraduate students registered for research (M.A./ M.Phil. / Ph.D.) in any university across India in the disciplines of Philosophy and/or Religious Studies (Buddhist Studies/Jainology/Comparative Religion).  

 2. Students doing M.A. Research/ M.Phil can upload a copy of B.A. Degree

Admission will be offered based on the merit and availability of seats taken together. The candidate will be communicated via email about his/her offered seat or waitlisted number.

Important Instructions

  • A provisional seat will be offered based on the merit, and availability of seats. The candidate will be communicated via email about his/her status of admission whether confirmed or waitlisted.
  • A candidate who has been offered a provisional seat will need to pay the full fees as applicable for the programme, within 8 days of the receipt of the offer letter, to secure the confirmed admission.
  • Candidate who does not pay the requisite amount as per the deadline will lose his/her claim on the confirmed seat during that phase.
  • Provisional admission needs to be confirmed within four working days of declaration of result of graduation or equivalent examinations, by paying the remaining balance of fees.
  • The final confirmation of admission is subject to physical verification of the documents. In case of non-availability of valid documents, the confirmation of the admission will result in cancellation.
  • Cancellation rules are available on the website for reference.
  • The admission schedule may change under unavoidable circumstances or as per directive / instructions from admitting authorities of Somaiya Vidyavihar University. The revised schedule, if any, will be notified on the website.

  • Physical Disability Certificate from a competent authority (The certificate should clearly state the disability is not less than 40% and that the disability is permanent in nature)

  • Certificate issued by competent authorities in a sports competition at State/National /International competitions
  • Credentials will be evaluated by Authorities of SVU
Documents for Non-Resident Indian (NRI ) Nationals

  1. For Online programmes: Candidate can upload either Passport copy of Candidate or Govt. issued Identity Card  For Offline programmes: Passport copy of Candidate is compulsory
  2. A Letter issued by the Indian Embassy indicating NRI status of Parent/ Sponsor/ Candidate
