Yoga is a system of Indian philosophy that has a strong focus on physical and mental well- being. Generally, it is through this aspect that students enter into the study of Yoga. This particular programme is designed to introduce students to specific physical exercises that have curative as well as preventive efficacy.

The programme is comprehensive as it incorporates various postures, breathing exercises, Kriya-s etc. It also introduces the students to the anatomical and physiological systems of the human body. It is of particular interest to students who wish to explore career opportunities in the fields of healthcare, physiotherapy and wellness.

Eligibility

HSC or equivalent with one year Diploma in Yoga from any of the recognized institutes. 

Pedagogy

Teaching-learning occurs in a combination of theory lectures and practical sessions. Students are introduced to the Yoga texts with the focus on the Therapeutic aspects of Yoga. They are also made aware of the basics of sensory organs and body systems to get the holistic approach and vision to utilize Yoga in the treatment of various diseases. Students are encouraged to submit the project work focused on applied use of Yoga Therapy that can be useful for them in future.

  • The special feature of this syllabus is that the students are taught about the history & basic principles of Yoga therapy, definition of health, characteristics of healthy person, Traditional Medical System, basic qualities of a Yoga Therapist and also the limitations of Yoga Therapy.
  • Along with the Traditional Medical System, the Complementary Alternate & Medical (CAM) system like Naturopathy, Acupressure, Rieki, Pranic Healing, Massage, etc. and few Alternate Systems like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Siddha are also introduced.
  • The application of Yoga in the treatment of some of the specific diseases is taught to the students.
  • The students get the preliminary knowledge relating to Health Parameters and purpose, etc. of various Clinical/ Radiological Tests & Medical Imaging etc.
