Event Details

Each year, as part of our Diploma programme in Buddhist Studies, we organize a meditation workshop for our students. This year, we are conducting it online because of the restrictions due to the pandemic situation and we have decided to open the session to all, so that many more people can benefit.

As many of you already know, Buddhist meditation techniques have added immensely to Indian meditation traditions, with Vipassana being the unique contribution. This is the analytical aspect of meditation, harnessing the one-pointedness of samadhi to develop insight, prajñā. Insight into the nature of things as they are is how Buddhists define liberation.

As Buddhism spread across Asia, the Chan School developed in China, which went on to be called Zen in Japan. The school distinguished itself by its emphasis on meditation practice and had a profound influence Chinese and Japanese culture.
