We at K. J. Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies make an effort to preserve the rich heritage of ancient Indian literature and the vast variety of ancient Indian languages through our different programmes. One of the most important and diverse group of Middle Indo-Aryan languages is termed as Prakrit. Prakrit includes variety of regional languages and is an invaluable tool to understand the cultural diversity of ancient India. Great wealth of literature including inscriptions, dramas, poetry, religious discourses etc. were composed in Prakrit languages.

We are delighted to announce a three-day workshop on the “Introduction to Prakrit Grammar and literature” from 6th May to 8th May 2022.

Workshop is open to all and will be conducted online.

A participation certificate will be provided who will attend the complete 3 days’ workshop.

The details of the workshop registration and schedule are as follows –

Day 1- Friday, 6th May 2022 

3.00 pm to 5.00 pm – Inaugural lecture by Dr. Jagat Ram Bhattacharya on 

                                   “Introduction to Prakrit Literature”

5.00 pm to 6.00 pm - Introduction to Prakrit Language and grammar

Day 2 - Saturday, 7th May 2022

3.00 pm to 4.00 pm - Introduction to Bauddha Sankar Sanskrit

4.00 pm to 5.00 pm - Introduction to Pali language

5.00 pm to 6.00 pm -  Grammatical Rules of Important Prakrit languages

Day 3 - Sunday, 8th May 2022

3.00 pm to 4.30 pm  - Discussion on grammatical rules of Prakrit continued

4.30 pm to 600 pm - Paragraphs reading
