Event Details

At Somaiya Vidyavihar University, our efforts are dedicated to the appreciation, study and preservation of our past, even as we step into the new and modern. In pursuit of this, we are pleased to announce an online lecture series on "Ancient Indian Mathematics and Astronomy" from 29th June to 1st July 2020, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

About the Series: Mathematics and astronomy really started civilisations across the globe. Without the development of mathematics it would have been difficult to plan the cities and without the meticulous observations of astronomical bodies it would be impossible to successfully execute long voyages. Ideas in mathematics and astronomy germinated in various cultures and were shared through scholars or traders who came in contact with local masters. In this lecture series we will discuss ideas that were developed in ancient India in mathematics and astronomy. The series is open to all and will include a discussion on comparative aspects with modern scientific developments.
